Another visit to Michigan by a prominent politician is happening this weekend. Democratic Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is visiting Warren on the east side of the state to rally as part of a tour of the upper Midwest.

The rally is taking place at the Macomb Community Parking Lot on Saturday. It is free and open to the public. Michigan will be the first stop of the rally tour. Sanders also will visit Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

Sanders is a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, but has been an independent caucusing with Democrats during his Senate years. He says he signed a pledge to join the party and run as a Democrat in the 2020 Presidential election.

According to a  survey reported by the Detroit Free Press of over 300 registered voters who are likely to vote in next year's Democratic primary, Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden of Vermont are in the lead in Michigan. In 2016, Bernie Sanders won the Democratic Primary in Michigan over Hillary Clinton by two percentage points.

President Trump was in Grand Rapids back on March 28th for a rally. Another Democratic Presidential hopeful, Kristen Gillibrand, came to Michigan earlier in March and was the first visit in the state from a high-profile candidate in the 2020 race.
