This Smelly Black Discharge Just Entered the Great Lakes
One spot on the Great Lakes is dealing with water contaminated with a smelly, black discharge.
The foul water was spotted at Niagara Falls between Lakes Erie and Ontario.
According to a statement from the Niagara Falls Water Board reported in the Buffalo News,
the discharge resulted from flushing a sediment basin, which is done routinely in the spring and fall. It was not normally performed during the tourist season though, he said.
The residue that turned the water black was residue from black carbon filters used to remove chemicals and smaller particles from the water.
For now the water remains an unwelcome attraction to those visiting the Falls.
