The City of Kalamazoo has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for drinking water for its Parchment customers located in portions of East Thomas Street, North Riverview Drive, Elmhurst Street and Elsmere Street in Parchment.

The City of Kalamazoo is in the process of repairing a water leak on East Thomas Street. The work resulted in a temporary loss of pressure. Consequently, a precautionary boil water advisory is being issued in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department for all water intended for drinking or ingestion for areas including:

  • East Thomas Street – From North Riverview Drive (western boundary) to Elmhurst Street (eastern boundary), both sides of street.
  • North Riverview Drive – From East “G” Avenue (northern boundary) to Elsmere Street (southern boundary), both sides of the street. Includes the “Parchment City Apartments”. Does NOT include the Speedway Gas Station and Harding’s Friendly Market.
  • Elmhurst Street – From East Thomas Street (northern boundary) to East Glenguile Street (southern boundary), both sides of the street. Excludes the northwest corner of Elmhurst Street and East Glenguile Street.
  • Elsmere Street – From North Riverview Drive (western boundary) to Elmhurst Street (eastern boundary), both sides of street.

This advisory is precautionary only; there have not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water main at the location of the infrastructure repair. Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours of its collection and the final set within 48 hours. It is expected that the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours (February 10).

Municipal water customers in the affected area may use bottled water for consumptive purposes or boil their tap water for 2 minutes prior to use for drinking or other ingestion. No special precautionary measures are necessary for water used for personal hygiene.
