Two young teens were arrested in Kalamazoo early Friday morning after they allegedly crashed a stolen car.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says they initially were called to the corner of Washington and Race around 1am March 9, after a car had crashed into a tree. The car was found unoccupied when police arrived, and investigation determined the vehicle had been stolen from an apartment complex a few miles away.

Officers conducted a K-9 track in the area, and eventually turned up a 16-year-old boy, determined to have been the car’s driver. He was arrested on charges of auto theft, leaving the scene of a crash, and marijuana possession. A 14-year-old, who the KDPS says was a passenger of the car, was also arrested after it was determined they had an Apprehend and Detain order for them.

Both teens were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.

The KDPS continues to investigate this incident, and they ask anyone who has info to get in touch, either directly or by calling Silent Observer anonymously.
