Dogs truly are man & woman's best friend. The good doggo above is Miss Nellie. Don't let her stunning good looks fool you, she's not just another pretty face. Nellie is a K-9 Deputy for the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday at approximately 9:00 p.m., Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Pine Lake Street, near M-60 in Howard Township, on a report of a 46-year-old female that had walked into the woods near her home and had not returned.

Family and friends became concerned because she does not leave the house too often due to medical issues. They began to search the wooded trails around the home and when they could not locate her, they notified the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. They were very concerned due to her medical condition, length of time she was missing, and the temperatures dropping.

Approximately 11 hours after the woman went missing, K-9 Nellie, the Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound, and her handler Deputy Graves were able to lead Deputies to the woman’s location, about a mile from the residence in a thick wooded area. The female was disoriented, cold and was transported to Lakeland Niles by Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service.

Assisting Deputies on scene were Pokagon Tribal Police, Dowagiac Police Department, Howard Township Fire Department and SMCAS Ambulance.

This good girl deserves all the treats for a job well done!
