The CDC has issued their annual warning against eating raw cookie dough, and most of us are probably going to ignore it.

I don't know one person with the will power to not snag a finger full of cookie dough before they go into the oven. Surprisingly, I don't know more people that have suffered from Salmonella or E. Coli poisoning.

The official CDC warning is to keep people from consuming raw food that could be potentially dangerous. The campaign is "Say No To Raw Dough" and it's featured on the CDC site. Cookie dough can be especially dangerous because both flour and uncooked eggs can carry harmful bacteria.

The main problem with the warning is that while it makes sense and is scientifically proven . . . people LOVE to eat cookie dough.

Kids for generations have waiting to lick the bowl or mixers when holiday cookies and cakes are being put together.

Since prevention is probably impossible, please familiarize yourself with the symptoms of E. Coli or Salmonella poisoning.

E. Coli

  • 3 to 4 days after consuming the item
  • Stomach Cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Possible Kidney failure
  • Need antibiotics to recover

Salmonella

  • 6 hours to 48 hours after consuming item
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach Cramps
  • Vomiting
  • 4-8 days of recovery with no antibiotic
