I was watching a sports talk show yesterday (Dan Patrick) and since it was National Pastry Day, the question they posed was, if you could only eat one type of pastry for the rest of your life, what would it be, and you were given the option of doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and croissants.

I know some people who absolutely would say cinnamon rolls, but for me, that's an easy choice. I'd opt for croissants, because you can get regular ones (and fill with chicken salad and grapes), but also ones drizzled with things like chocolate, and that would cover the need for chocolate, so that's my choice.

But all this got me to thinking about Christmas cookies. How many types of Christmas cookies are there? Probably a limitless amount. I guess I'm for anything with chocolate or chocolate chips, but why stop there? There's sugar cookies that can be decorated any number of ways. Gingerbread cookies at Christmas are good. What about those balls of dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. I think they're called snowballs.

I don't have any food allergies, so nut-flavored cookies are fine by me. But there's also pinwheels, and what about spritz cookies. Going through the delish.com site, they also mention peanut butter kiss blossoms (which looks like it has a Hershey's kiss) and thumbprint cookies with fruit filling. A childhood favorite mentioned is lemon flavored cookies. They used to sell those in stores back when I was a kid.

But my favorite, which matches my love of coffee with my love of sweets, is Mocha Logs. All you do is make some instant coffee and add it to a cookie batter, and then put it out through a cookie dough pusher-outer (some might call those cookie presses), into the shape of little logs, and bake them until they are dark and brown. Then, melt some chocolate and dip half the cooled cookie logs in that, before one final dip into some chopped nuts. Happy holidays, my friends.
