A Coldwater man was formally charged with fleeing and eluding after leading authorities on a high-speed chase that ended on Interstate 94 Friday afternoon.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in Pennfield for improper plates, but the driver would elude police through Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties. The chase ended on the westbound side of I-94 near the 9th Street exit near Oshtemo, where the car went off the highway.

The man, later identified as 46-year-old Charles Allen, was arrested after a short foot chase. Authorities also observed items being thrown from the vehicle.

Allen was arraigned Monday on a charge of 4th-degree fleeing and eluding, with a preliminary hearing set for July 6th. He was out on parole and expected to be off of supervised parole June 24th following an armed robbery charge in 2000, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.

The investigation of the case continues.
