Community Reacts To Kalamazoo Central Football Team Kneeling For Anthem
Yesterday Kalamazoo Central's football team dropped a 31-3 loss to Mattawan High School. But the real story that has everyone up in arms is the fact that during the anthem, the Kalamazoo Gazette snapped a shot of the team taking a knee during the National Anthem. Naturally, this had people freaking out and arguing on Facebook about what taking a knee during the anthem represents, what taking a knee is apparently disrespecting, and people who are still clueless to the world that we are really living in. Here are some of the comments:
Here's my hot take, as if it even matters: If football players kneeling offends you because you feel they are disrespecting our flag and our troops, your anger is mis-guided. If anyone is disrespecting our troops, it's the government that sends them to fight and possibly die, with no plan of making sure they are set for life if they come home. Most of the homeless we have in our country are veterans. We don't even have an exact count, that's whats messed up.
If you have ever had to face active combat or put into a war zone, you should be taken care of for the remainder of your life. No arguments. We spend TRILLIONS on war and we can't even take care of our soldiers when they return home?
Now, if you're one of these people who believes white privilege doesn't exist, what magic serum are you taking? Because I'm sure there's a large population that would also love to live in that fantastical utopia. Sadly, this is an institutionalized problem that has been happening since the country was founded and has never stopped, it's merely changed forms over the years.
Finally, just because you're not black, doesn't mean it doesn't affect you. We are all one nation. One people. One race. One planet. How could anyone not be affected by social injustice? I understand that some people may not be able to understand what it's like to be racially profiled, but just because someone is going through something you're not, doesn't mean it's not important.
With that said, go have a good weekend and be kind to people and stop being negative towards one another. Spread positivity, not hate.
