Dantonio Has Praise For Western Michigan Ahead of Week 2 Meeting
On the heels of a 35-10 win over Bowling Green where the defense gave up no offensive touchdowns, Spartans head football coach Mark Dantonio had a lot of praise to give his team, especially the young players who stepped up in their first collegiate game.
Still with Western Michigan coming to town this Saturday, Dantonio is aware of the quality of opponent MSU will face. The Broncos went toe to toe with then #4 USC on the road for most of the game last week. A late pick six by the Trojans made the scoreline (49-31) a little more lopsided then it indicates.
Dantonio also gave a vote of confidence to his stable of running backs, even LJ Scott who lost two fumbles against Bowling Green (one of them for a touchdown) and was the lowest rusher by average among the three starters.
Other news and notes coming out of the press conference. Damion Terry suffered a minor injury in the game against Bowling Green and with Messiah deWeaver not being 100% that was why Brian Lewerke came back into the game even though it was a four score differential.
Demetrius Cooper was listed on the team's depth chart this week even though he left the game against Bowling Green with an injury. While Dantonio did not offer comment he did say he is expecting Cooper to be able to suit up for the Western Michigan game.
