Mosquitoes.

Now that the day-biting Asian tiger mosquito has been found in Michigan that buzzing sound by your ear can be heard 24 hours a day.

The Asian tiger mosquito is capable of spreading the Zika virus and other diseases. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that the mosquito has been discovered in Michigan for the first time. However, they say there is no evidence of Zika virus-infected mosquitoes in Michigan or the entire Midwest this year.

The Asian tiger mosquitoes were found in Wayne County in an industrial area in Livonia along I-96. It has been extending its range and has been found in Nebraska, Connecticut, Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and now Michigan. It is an invasive day-biting mosquito which breeds in containers where water collects, such as old tires, gutters, and flower pots.

It used to be you were usually safe from mosquitoes during the day in Michigan, but this mosquito has other plans. Protect yourself with repellent, long pants and sleeves, screens and by eliminating standing water.
