I'm not complaining about the extra hour of sleep this weekend, but why hasn't Daylight Saving Time been canceled in Michigan?

Michigan lawmakers made a push to abolish the semi-annual time change in our state in January of 2017, but it did not pass. The bill was introduced and read in the House of Representatives, then referred to committee, but never debated.

A similar piece of legislation was introduced in 2015 but it met the same fate.

Some studies have shown that there is an increase in the number of traffic accidents and heart attacks following each time change.

So why can't Michigan join the likes of Arizona and Hawaii, the only two states that observe Standard Time all year long? Or better yet -- let's opt to stay on Daylight Saving Time year round and avoid driving home in the dark during the winter. Now we're talking!

But until Lansing finally decides to do away with the time change, don't forget to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. And don't forget about some of those devices that have built-in clocks like the water softener, thermostat, and home automation gear.
