The free-talking politician says he is being attacked by the left, however, those within his party are pulling support. Conservative Michigan Freedom Fund criticizes Regan as “unworthy to serve” and "doesn't belong anywhere near the state Capitol".

State Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser said in a statement that Regan’s “history of foolish, egregious and offensive comments, including his most recent one, are simply beyond the pale. We are better than this as a party and I absolutely expect better than this of our candidates.”

His daughter, Stephanie Regan, tweeted

“If you’re in Michigan and 18+ pls for the love of god do not vote for my dad for state rep. Tell everyone.”

The candidate told The Hill that he was not completely surprised by his daughter's words given their disagreements over issues like systemic racism, the existence of white privilege, and Black Lives Matter.

He posted to Facebook,

"I am happy that she feels confident enough in our relationship to express her opposing thoughts so publicly."

The candidate is used to hot takes. He has posted a meme from a pro-Nazi website claiming that feminism “is a Jewish program to degrade and subjugate white men.”

Media outlets have also noted that Regan is a 2020 election conspiracy theorist and has claimed that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “fake war just like the fake pandemic.”

Regan will now face Carol Glanville, a Democrat, in the special election for the seat on May 3.
