The 1968 Summer Olympics were held in Mexico City. But Detroit was second place in the voting to host the games. In this now obscure video, here's what Detroit's city fathers produced for the Olympic Selection Committee.

Mexico City easily won the selection derby on the first vote with Detroit, the lone entry from the United States, finished a rather distant second. Lyon, France and Buenos Aires, Argentina were third and fourth in the voting.

The Detroit video, hosted by the city's mayor, Jerome Cavanagh, said that at the time of the video's production, 1965, that the city was enjoying its 'finest hour,' with a renaissance happening in the city.
