Detroit Tigers To Have First Pick In Upcoming Rule 5 Draft
The Detroit Tigers can use all the help they can get and they may find a few more players to help the team in the upcoming Rule 5 draft.
According to Major League Baseball, the latest Rule 5 draft will take place on Thursday, December 12th at Noon. The draft takes place annually during the winter meetings.
The Tigers have the first pick in the draft which will feature players left unprotected from MLB teams rosters. Players need to have been signed by age 18 and have completed five pro seasons, or who signed at age 19 or older and have finished four pro seasons.
A team must have an open spot on the roster to make a selection. Once on the roster they must stay for the season or pass waivers and be offered back to the previous team.
The latest Tigers Rule 5 player to have some success has been Victor Reyes. The Tigers picked up the outfielder from Arizona back in 2017. Will they find any one who can contribute this next season?
The draft will air on MLB dot com on Thursday at Noon.
