Driver Escapes Injury Following Semi-truck Fire Monday Morning

A portion of the I-94 Business Loop (Columbia Ave.) in Battle Creek was closed at I-94 Monday morning due to a semi-truck fire. It happened around 7:00 just off of exit 92 and the road was closed in both directions while the Battle Creek Fire Department worked to put out the flames. Dark smoke was visible for miles. The fire was mostly extinguished by around 7:30, but emergency crews remained at the scene for quite sometime to clear it.

The fire originated from the back end of the trailer and the driver was reportedly not injured. The driver's cab of the semi was able to be separated from the trailer and parked at a safe distance. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
