Epic Weekend Split Keeps Broncos in Third Place
Imagine a tough, heavyweight bout. That was the weekend series at Lawson between fourth ranked Minnesota-Duluth and fifteenth ranked WMU. Western won the opening round Friday night, but the defending and two time champions found a way to win on Saturday night.
It was another intense, hard hitting hockey game Saturday night in front of a standing room only crowd. The Bulldogs scored just :35 seconds in to the start of the game on a Justin Richards goal. Austin Rueschhoff, who scored with a big blast on Friday night, tallied again Saturday night at 14:02. The game stayed tied until late into the third period before Quinn Olson's goal eleven minutes in decided the game.
For the scoreboard watchers, the weekend split keeps Western six points behind UMD, but now Denver is just one point behind the Broncos, after sweeping Miami this weekend.
The journey towards the Frozen Faceoff doesn't get any easier this coming weekend with WMU traveling to number one ranked North Dakota for a pair of games.
