The parent company of Family Dollar announced on April 3rd that they will be closing roughly 330 stores nationwide, including the store in Portage.

The Federal Trade Commission is still in the process of the possible purchase of the Dollar Express franchise, which is being bought by Dollar General, according to Consumerist. Family Dollar was purchased just three years ago by Dollar Tree, and Dollar Express was born.

The public notices for closures in Michigan were announced on Monday, with 24 total stores in Michigan set to close by June 30th. While a majority of them are in the Detroit area, the store at 5503 South Westnedge in Portage will close.

Even though five employees will be affected by the closure, there are still six other stores in the Kalamazoo area.
