Batlle Creek is in for a treat as a new lunch and dinner takeout spot, which has been a fixture in Kalamazoo for decades has opened for business. Papa's Italian Sausage opened July 3rd at the old Domino's Pizza location near the intersection of Capital and Columbia and are holding a grand opening event this Thursday.

Owner Terry Calhoun says they had wanted to bring their unique flavor to Battle Creek for quite sometime. It was only six months ago, however, that they started putting a plan in place. Everything came together pretty quickly. The Battle Creek location will serve the same menu as its Kalamazoo counterpart, including their signature item the Bella Supreme which is made using homemade Italian sausage, beef, cheese, peppers, and onions. They offer other authentic Italian sandwiches, hot dogs, and sausages, among more original menu items.

Terry's uncle, Carl Rizzuto Jr., is the owner of the Kalamazoo location and all the original recipes came from Carl's father. In 1983, Carl started testing his products at area fairs and events in and around Kalamazoo. He even brought Papa's Italian Sausage to a couple of the early balloon festivals in Battle Creek.

In 1984, on a $5,000 loan, a takeout restaurant was opened in Parchment and they later moved to their current location on King's Highway in Kalamazoo. The Battle Creek location is destined to be a success as customers will quickly discover why Papa's Italian Sausage has been one of Kalamazoo's favorite takeout spots for so long.

The restaurant is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10am to 8pm and they do offer catering. You can find out more about them on their Facebook page HERE.
