Paw Paw's Fire Department has had a history making week. First, they announced the addition to the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department with their first fourth generation firefighter. Now, they are excited to announce that they have hired the first female to have ever worked for the PPFD. Raelyn DeGroff is excited for the opportunity, but being a fire fighter isn't something that's entirely new for her family, as WWMT reports.

DeGroff is actually a 3rd generation firefighter herself, taking after her father and grandfather. DeGroff began her journey in November as a junior firefighter. She reflected on times spent in a firetruck with her father, knowing that was to be her calling in life. She was aware that having aspirations towards a career which was mostly male-dominated would pose some challenges, but encourages others, saying: “If you can dream it you can do it. It's been my dream since I was eight and I am here.”
