A sixteen year veteran of the U.S. Attorney's office, Andrew Byerly Birge has assumed the position of Acting U.S. Attorney for Western Michigan.

Birge has been First Assistant to the U.S. Attorney for the past 9 and a half years. He was first appointed to the position by former U. S. Attorney Charles Gross, under President George W. Bush.

Birge began his legal career as a law clerk to the late Chief U.S. District
Court Judge Richard A. Enslen, in Kalamazoo. , Birge then was an Associate for several years with the law firm of Jenner & Block in Chicago prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s
