Former Michigan State University President  Lou Anna Simon is now formally charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors. It’s fallout from the case against serial molester Larry Nassar.

Simon is accused of lying to investigators about what she and the university knew about Nassar’s assaults on students. Simon resigned as MSU president not long after Nassar’s sentencing in last January. Accusations were flying that MSU didn’t do enough to stop Nassar from molesting hundreds of young athletes throughout his career. A Detroit News investigation reported that Simon was one of at least 14 MSU staff members who were warned about Nassar’s conduct.

In a written opinion and order, Eaton County Judge Julie Reincke found that Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office had established probable cause that Simon lied to police in an interview last year. Simon’s legal team claims there is no credible evidence against her. Attorney General Nessel says the judge’s decision  “brings survivors another step closer to receiving the answers they deserve”. Simon may appear in court on the charges as early as mid-December.
