Free Thanksgiving Meal At The Fire Hub In Battle Creek
We've talked about the tremendous generosity of FireKeepers Casino Hotel giving millions and millions of dollars back to the community. Then came The Fire Hub on the corner of Kendal St. and Dickman Rd in Battle Creek which has become the physical manifestation of that generosity. Our friend Amber Ballard from FireKeepers sent along the information which is more eloquent than I could presume to express:
The Fire Hub restaurant will be closing to the public this Thanksgiving Day, in order to provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal to Battle Creek families and citizens in need. In cooperation with the Food Bank of South Central Michigan and the Haven of Rest Ministries, The Fire Hub plans to feed up to 500 guests.
The Fire Hub is a unique casino owned local partnership, designed by FireKeepers Casino Hotel to bring a valued restaurant to the Battle Creek community while also housing a food pantry and distributing food to the less fortunate in the city. “Our priority is to help our community, so we are going to do whatever we can to provide a warm, healthy holiday meal for those in need,” stated Michael McFarlen, Vice President of Food and Beverage and FireKeepers. “We will continue to develop creative ways to help our neighbors as long as there is a need.”
Anyone in need of a hot meal on Thanksgiving Day is welcome from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. No appointment or invitation required. Anyone interested in volunteering can call The Fire Hub at 269.753.0065 for times and details.
The Fire Hub’s restaurant’s main goal is to give back to its community. This is accomplished via multiple programs including The Kendall Street Pantry, which is located in the rear section of the building. The Pantry works in conjunction with the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, distributing food from shelves to those less fortunate each week. Another program is the charitable fund, which sets aside eighty percent of all restaurant profits, to be distributed to local charities and non-profit organizations.
The Fire Hub restaurant, located on the corner of Kendall Street and Dickman Road in Battle Creek, MI, is owned and operated by FireKeepers Casino Hotel. A first of its kind non-profit, hands-on investment by a casino operator, The Fire Hub blends a restaurant and food pantry to help those less fortunate. The Fire Hub’s concept was the vision of Michael McFarlen, Vice President of Food and Beverage at FireKeepers Casino Hotel and a 2016 Governor’s Service Award winner for the state of Michigan.
