Roseanne's current fall from grace is staggering enough, but powerful people fool themselves into an, ultimately, false feeling of invincibility all the time. All you need to do is look at Washington to see way too many examples of that. But how did this woman become the darling of conservatives in the first place?I guess it's might be a combination of short memories and a never-ending willingness to look the other way when it suits one's purposes or using today's terminology, talking points.

A little history lesson for the uninitiated here. The first time Roseanne was on the top of the showbiz world, she was asked to sing the National Anthem ahead of a San Diego Padres game. This is what happened.

Now, virtually every conservative on the planet has condemned NFL players from Colin Kaepernick to Eric Reid and countless others in-between, for kneeling during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner ahead of football games. But many of these same people have chosen to "take a knee" on condemning Roseanne for essentially vocally spitting on the same Star Spangled Banner. And while too many were all to happy to share that they were boycotting watching NFL games, Roseanne's TV series reboot debuted to, what by today's standards would be strong ratings.

I guess the argument has, for now, been postponed, with Roseanne committing professional suicide. But it does shine a bright spotlight on an ugly truth, the lack of principle and morality in the very people who espouse it for everyone else. There's a lot of things that we may not appreciate in the younger generations coming up, but one thing they can spot in split second is hypocrisy. "Do as I say, not as I do" just doesn't cut with them. That just might be our saving grace.
