A house fire in Berrien County earlier this week led to an arrest, after evidence pointed to the fire being related to a marijuana grow.

MLive.com reports that Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputies and fire crews responded to the 1100 block of Stateline Rd, around 4pm Tuesday on reports of a house fire.  Fire crews worked to put the fire out, and as that was happening authorities observed evidence that marijuana was being grown inside.

A search warrant was obtained, and found marijuana, marijuana plants and items used to grow the plant. Investigation also found that the fire was most likely caused by the equipment used to grow marijuana.

The home’s resident, 34-year-old Luther Borders, was arrested on a probation violation and drug charges.

Child Protective Services was called as well, for the 9-year-old and 7-year-old living at the residence.
