How to Get Involved with Civic Theatre's Penguin Project: Annie J

You've probably heard of junior productions of mainstream shows, right? They're usually condensed to no longer than one Act. They cast children in all the roles. Some theatre companies even have children directing, running light boards, and even working in the Box Office for these productions. But The Penguin Project is something unique. Participants, aged 9 through 26, take to the stage to perform these shows, however, these individuals have disabilities, including Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, and other disorders. They are joined on stage by mentors: people their same age working along side their paired artist for the full four-month rehearsal process and performances.

The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre invites artists and mentors along with parents and guardians to attend an Informational/Registration Meeting, Sunday, February 2nd at 4:00pm, or Monday, February 3rd at 6:30pm in the Carver Center. This program is absolutely free and open to everyone aged 9 to 26. Theatre is for all. This is a great way to get everyone involved, regardless of ability.
