After a complaint filed by a civil rights group, Hudsonville schools have shut down a teacher-led lunchtime Bible study.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

-Proverbs 22:6

The teacher didn't think he was doing anything wrong because the 5th grade Bible study group he led met at lunchtime- not during classroom hours. WBCK.com reports the Michigan Association of Civil Rights Activists saw it differently and now, Hudsonville Public Schools have ended the practice after a complaint.

This raises a lot of questions:

  • Is Bible study appropriate for 5th graders?
  • Should the teacher have asked permission?
  • It seems ending the talks has settled the matter; should further action be taken?
