If you feel like it has been unseasonably cold this month in West Michigan.  You're not alone.

I reached out to Meteorologist Jeff Porter from WWMT News Channel 3 this morning about these chili May Temps.  Below Jeff provided daily high temps so far this month in Battle Creek followed by how many degrees below or above the average high temps.  (Kalamazoo temps are almost identical.)

May 1: 64 (-3)
May 2: 63 (-4)
May 3: 54 (-13)
May 4: 65 (-3)
May 5: 72 (+4)
May 6: 75 (+6)
May 7: 54 ( -15)
May 8: 62 (-7)
May 9: 75 (+5)

** We haven't hit 80 degrees yet this year, which is extremely late

** Typical highs range from the upper 60's to the lower 70's during this time

Will we see an end to the below average temps soon?  It's not likely.  These projections from the National Weather Service show a 40-50% probability that Michigan will have below average temps for the next couple weeks.

Mr. Porter added,

Battle Creek and Calhoun county are under Frost Advisories from 2 AM through 8 AM Saturday. Typically, the last frost and freeze of the season transpires in the 1st week of May.

I plan on sending a Mother's Day card to Mother Nature which includes a friendly reminder that it is Spring.
