McDonald's is looking to cash in on a growing American trend - Chicken for breakfast.

CNN reports that McDonald's this week is starting sales of Chicken McGriddles and McChicken Biscuit sandwiches. Its currently for "a limited time", but you have to believe, if sales go through the roof it will become an everyday menu item. Prior to this week, McDonald's sold the two items regionally, but have now made them available here and nationwide.

The reason behind this big push towards chicken is, first of all, Americans are doing increasingly goofy things over chicken. Long lines at competitor Chick-Fil-A, and even more "passionate" acts at Popeye's indicate a desire for chicken. McDonalds has long sold chicken sandwiches, but they haven't spawned the excitement that these competitors have. The CNN story quotes franchisees complaining the McDonalds doesn't have a strong competitor in the "premium chicken sandwich" category. The company is testing some crispy variations around the nation in addition to the chicken for breakfast option.
