Douglas Community Association Annual Winter Wear Drive

The Douglas Community Association has been serving the north-side community of Kalamazoo since the early 1900s. Whether people needed to use the resources they had, find knowledge within the Alma Powell branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library, to just need a place to hang out The Douglas Community Association was there for them. Including me, I spent many days across many years at the Douglas running around, especially after they added the boys and girls club.

Toney Patterson has been working at the Douglas for over 40 years and after growing up in Kalamazoo and staying home, he has made an impact on this city that will never be forgotten. Whether it be at the Douglas or in the Kalamazoo Public School system, Mr. Toney as the kids know him, he's devoted to making sure they are being taken care of. For the last 10 years, he has been running a winter wear drive to help kids who are less fortunate and this year is no different.

Mr Toney and the Douglas Community Association will be collecting hats, gloves, scarves, and coats for the youth. So if you just bought new ones or have old ones just lying around, go ahead and donate them to a young child who would be elated to have them. They also have an option available for you those who would like to donate money to the cause, which the Douglas Community Association would then go and buy more hats, gloves, scarves, and coats for those in need.

They are open Monday-Saturday at 8 am and will be collecting these winter wear items up until their December 8th, 5 pm deadline.
