Kalamazoo’s Stamped Robin Could Be Named After A Michigan Tradition
The Stamped Robin which made its way to Downtown Kalamazoo in 2017, has burst onto the scene and has forged its path to becoming a staple in our city. After all the hard work they have put in they have now reached the status where residents are suggesting their business when asked about the best cocktails in town.
One of the most intriguing pieces of this establishment is the name: The Stamped Robin. The name is uniquely chosen, and after finding out the reason why, it becomes cooler. I recently found out that The Stamped Robin is named after a yearly Michigan tradition that occurs when the snow melts.
Have you ever heard of Stamping a Robin? Yeah, me either! It seems like something that is literally impossible to do, but according to the Reddit posts that sit below, this is a tradition that many Michiganders partake in every spring.

If you didn't know, our state bird is the American Robin, hence some of the significance of naming the bar The Stamped Robin but also points to this longtime tradition. According to multiple users, when the snow melts and you see the first Robin you are to lick your thumb and stamp your palm.
This is much like placing a stamp on an envelope so that it will stick, I guess the point is for the robin to stay here in Michigan and for spring to come instead of more winter weather. Now, the other side of this is that basically, nobody had heard of this tradition, as these were the responses:

Nonetheless, I've never heard of this tradition but it might be my favorite and has inspired the unique name of a Downtown Kalamazoo bar.
