Michigan College First With Their Own Cocktail

Over the last couple of years, many states have passed laws granting colleges and universities the right to apply for licenses to sell alcoholic beverages at their sports facilities. Michigan joined that list of states last year in 2023 and instantly many schools applied and received permits for all or many of their sports facilities. This would increase their concession sales as fans could enjoy drinks while watching their favorite team.

The University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, and Eastern Michigan University were some of the first and most notable colleges to apply for permits but also schools like Grand Valley State University (GVSU) would apply and receive permits as well. GVSU is taking one leg up in the game on everyone else not only in the state but in the country as they are the first to have their own cocktail drink.

GVSU and Long Road Distillers have partnered together to create the Lake + Valley Lemonade to sell to their fans at sporting events. Long Road Distillers is owned by GVSU alum Kyle Van Strien. The Ready to Drink canned cocktail is a mixture of vodka and lemonade with flavors of lemon and blueberry with a hint of basil. Using the Long Road Distillers original vodka at 5% with 110 calories.

Starting this week, Lake + Valley Lemonade will be available across the state of Michigan as Long Road Distillers plans to sell the cocktail in stores, bars, and restaurants. This fall, Lakers fans will be able to purchase and enjoy Lake + Valley Lemonade at Lubbers Stadium and the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

You can find Lake + Valley Lemonade online via the Long Road Spirit Finder. A percentage of sales from each purchase of the canned cocktail will go directly into GVSU's general fund.
