At the end of the day, you aren't necessarily safe anywhere but there are places that are safer than others. Many towns in Michigan are much safer than some may perceive but there are others that are just as dangerous or even more dangerous than some may know. Violent and non-violent crime rates have been something that has been monitored for years and the statistics are alarming.

Just like any other statistics, there are factors that can skew the data, so placing parameters helps narrow down the field. If you look the cities with the most crime or danger, you're going to get all of the big cities because of more land and more people. So, what does this data look like when you only factor in the small towns across America?

According to the YouTube Video above from The World According To Briggs, there is one small Michigan town that lands amongst the ten most dangerous towns in the United States. They made the list the construction of their list very easy to understand as the only two factors were towns with populations under 15,000 residents and their violent crime rate.

Muskegon Heights would be the one small town in Michigan that would land in the top 10 of this list but I'm sure there were a few others that landed outside of the top 10 as crime rates have risen over the years. Muskegon Heights is said to have about 10,000 residents but a pretty high violent crime rate.

Muskegon Heights has a crime rate of 24.8 per 1000 residents, which means that 24.8 out of every 1000 residents will be a victim of a violent crime. This crime rate is the 4th highest on the list, placing Muskegon Heights in infamous company with the other cities that make up the top 5.
