Do You Have To Give Back A Football Caught At A Lions Game?
I've always been a big sports fan, now I can't go on and on about player stats and statistics, but I love watching a game in person or on TV.
I just saw something that happened over the weekend at the Seattle Seahawks vs. Detroit Lions game and it had me confused.
A fan at Ford Field caught a ball that went into the stands and soon after a group of security guards surrounded the man and tried to get the Football back.
I've never seen a person get to keep a basketball that went into the crowd at a Pistons game.
I have however been to a Red Wings game where several pucks went into the crowd and the fans got to keep them.
Same thing for a home run or foul ball at Comerica Park.
Do You Have To Give A Ball Back At An NFL Game?
If a football is caught by a fan in the stands during an NFL game, the fan is not required to return the ball. However, it is common for ushers or security guards to approach the fan and take the ball away.
In some cases, the fan may be given another ball as a replacement. The reason for this is that game balls are specially prepped and the NFL wants to ensure that they are not lost or damaged.
Another reason is if that ball was part of a recorded breaking play or major game, in those cases the player would want to keep that ball.
