Governor Whitmer Shares a Bell’s Beer with Daily Show Host in Kalamazoo
We Michiganders love to sit down and share a beer and a chat. It feels like the universal way of breaking bread in the Michigan state. So naturally, when Kalamazoo Native and Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper returned to his hometown, he and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer did as any Michiganders would do: shared a cold one.
If you didn't know, Jordan Klepper was born in Kalamazoo and attended and graduated from Kalamazoo College in 2001, before eventually making his way onto the Comedy Central show that we know and love him for today.
In the segment which aired on Thursday, April 20th, Governor Whitmer and Klepper met at Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo to share a seasonal favorite- an Oberon. And Klepper himself made the they joke that he was "happy to be here in a Michigan health foods store... a microbrewery,”
They covered several hot topic buttons here in Michigan including how Gov. Whitmer has tackled abortion rights and gun control, and how she chooses to not make headlines, but instead she wants to work for the people of Michigan and fixing our problem.
After their drink, they weren't done: They decided to follow through with Gov. Whitmer's keystone catchphrase: They fixed the damn roads.
They met with a Kalamazoo paving crew, put on vests and joined the team as they helped patch a few potholes in Downtown Kzoo, which I'm sure people really appreciated.
It was really great to see a Michigan native come home and spotlight his home state for the rest of the nation. Heres the video If you'd like to view the entire segment:
