Another day, and another publication saying that there is yet again something wrong with one of the cities in Michigan for the um-tenth time. There are so many online publications that do ranking polls and claim that there are tons of Michigan cities that are doing great things and other Michigan cities that are on the verge of total economic and social collapse.
This new one comes from visualcapitalist.com and recently listed the top 10 dirtiest cities in America, which Michigan landed on.

How did they determine this?
In order to calculate the top 10 dirtiest cities in America, the scores they calculated were based on categories such as pollution, infrastructure, living conditions, and resident dissatisfaction, as their article explains :
In the ranking, over 300 major cities are scored on four main categories of pollution, infrastructure, living conditions, and resident dissatisfaction. Some metrics included in the score calculations include: air quality index, greenhouse gas emissions per capita, water quality violations, quantity of waste in landfills per capita, population density, and share of overcrowded rooms.

Luckily for us, we weren’t the worst on the list, but it was still pretty bad. As you probably guessed, Detroit landed number two on the list of the top 10 dirtiest cities in the United States.
I agree that Detroit has a long way to go, but they've made tremendous strides in the last decade, revitalizing the city and cleaning it up. I just feel at this point, Detroit is just a dumping ground for bad press for online publications. It's like they’re not even trying anymore.
