Fire & Ice Festival Will Host Biggest Christmas Light Display In Michigan In Rochester
Downtown Rochester is holding one final BIG winter festival the weekend of January 20th and 21st which will also give visitors their last chance to see the Big, Bright Light Show, which is Michigan's biggest Christmas light display. The entire downtown area will be decorated with over 1.5 million points of light all while celebrating the winter season. The annual Fire & Ice Festival draws thousands of people and will host a number of events and talented artists.
Now, I usually limit my art to having to draw the occasional stick figure but these artists will be working in the freezing cold creating amazing ice sculptures. In past years not only do the artists carve their sculptures for the event, but you can actually go to their space and watch them make new creations right in front of you. They've also held a bunch of different attractions for the family including the chance to be pulled on a 4-wheeler by a pack of snow dogs, sledding down a bobsled-like snow track, a coffee and cocoa area, a marshmallow roasting pit, cornhole tournaments.
There's even a good chance there will be some celebratory fireworks, but the planning committee is still finalizing the event, so you can check their page for updates as the date draws closer. The light display will be taken down on the 23rd and won't return until this year's holiday season.
Rochester has hosted a number of winter events in the past including the SnowGlow event from last year. These ice sculptures are stupidly impressive...
