Former Shaking Crab Restaurant In Portage Becoming Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant

There are some restaurants in Southwest Michigan. They just have a hard time catching wind and don’t seem to last very long. It’s hard to say whether or not it’s because of the restaurant itself or the location, but regardless, we’ve seen many buildings change from one thing to the next.

One building that has seen its fair share of changes throughout the years is the restaurant that sits off of ML King Drive across the road from Crossroads Mall in Portage.

The restaurant, which is located near Dunhams Sports in Blaine’s Farm and Fleet, has been everything from a Brann's Steakhouse to, most recently, the Shaking Crab. But seafood restaurants in the area have not seen a lot of success, with the closure of the Crafty Crab on Gull Road and then the Shaking Crab. It’s time for a new restaurant to move in.

Signage has now gone up that a new Mexican restaurant will be opening up soon, hoping to break the trend of restaurants in that building not having very long shelf lives.

The name of the restaurant is Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina. As for now, there’s no set opening day as there is still a lot of construction that needs to be done on the outside and I’m sure on the inside as well.

But it’ll be interesting to see how fast they plan on opening, and if they will be ready to open by this summer. We'll continue to monitor social media for a new page for the upcoming restaurant.
