This Michigan College Is Overflowing With Applications, Dwarfing Pre-Covid Numbers
Michigan is known for its great education and has a strong and rich history when it comes to its college campuses. Not just with the University of Michigan and Michigan State, but Western & Eastern.
There are also a lot of great community colleges in the state that are attended by thousands of new students every year. but one university in Michigan in particular has seen a substantial amount of growth compared to pre-Covid as AOL pointed out:
Numerade analyzed National Center for Education Statistics data to rank the 50 colleges where applications are growing the fastest. To be included, colleges and universities had to receive at least 2,000 applications in the 2022-2023 school year and offer four-year degrees. They are ranked by the percent increase in applications from the 2019-2020 school year to the 2022-2023 school year, the latest data available.
Who In Michigan Topped The List?
It turns out the University of Michigan ranked Number 44. But what's interesting is it wasn't the Ann Arbor Campus, but the Dearborn Campus:
#44. University of Michigan-Dearborn
Located in Dearborn, Michigan
-Total applicants in the 2022-23 school year: 12,026
-- 85.9% more than in 2019
-- 158.5% change from 2012
- Students admitted in the 2022-23 school year: 6,506
-- 62.3% change from 2019
-- 124.3% change from 2012
So in 12 years, there's been a 124% increase in students. To go from 5,000+ to 12,000+ is a pretty impressive number. Surprisingly, the Dearborn campus in particular was the one that has seen the most growth, over the larger, more well-known Ann Arbor campus, but there must be something there that's driving people to want to be a part of the school.
