Meijer is Offering Free Home Delivery to Low Income Families
The company known as "Meijer" is really stepping up by offering free home delivery to low income customers who purchase their groceries using a federal assistance program. The free home delivery will continue through Dec. 31.
I'm a big fan of Meijer and really appreciate their special ways of helping thousands and thousands of people.
Meijer is such a huge company too. Meijer operates close to 500 stores in Michigan, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Ohio and a few other states.
I started working at Meijer back in 1972 on South Pennsylvania in Lansing. I was only 16 at the time, but I had the opportunity to work with Fred Meijer and his entire family at the time.
I worked at Meijer for about three years and even pumped gas at their gas station which was located on the east side of the Meijer store on S. Pennsylvania.
Currently, Meijer is helping families get easier access to healthy foods during the holiday season.
From mlive.com:
The Walker-based retailer said in a statement the move is part of an effort to “increase access to healthy and affordable food and reduce food insecurity. “For example, earlier this year, we added SNAP benefits for online orders, as well as discounts on produce for SNAP customers,” the retailer said in a news release, referring to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
This couldn't have come at a better time. There are too many low income families who could use this kind of help, especially right now during the holidays.
By the way did I mention that Meijer on S. Pennsylvania actually had an ice cream parlor called "The Purple Cow?" I should know because I served up plenty of ice cream back then.
