A former Emmett Township Public Safety officer was sentenced today just over a year after an assault in Kalamazoo.

Troy Estree reach a plea deal and pled no contest to assault by strangulation last month, after an initial charge of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct. Investigators say that the assault occurred with an adult female relative at a hot tub business last July.

Estree was sentenced to 10 months in jail with credit for six months served, followed by four years of probation.

Authorities say that Estree committed the assault while out on bond for a sexual assault case of a female teen relative in Calhoun County in 2014. Estree was acquitted on all charges.
