Kalamazoo Area Restaurant Adds Curling Sheet with Lakefront View

The patio at the Cove in Portage likely doesn't get much use during the winter months, so maybe it's not surprising that the owners found a cold weather use for the space along the shore of West Lake - a curling sheet.

The sheet will give restaurant patrons to "draw the button" just like they do on the Olympics.

The Cove, which recently opened on the spot that once was home to Jason's Cove (check out the old building and signage) is hosting curling through at least late January.

Curling in Michigan is perhaps a bigger deal than you know with 8 Curling Clubs across the state under the umbrella of the Great Lakes Curling Association. The clubs are in Calumet, Gladstone, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Lewiston, Midland and Traverse City. The Detroit Curling Club dates back to 1885.

The Kalamazoo Curling Club has been roaring rocks down the ice at Wings Event Center since 2008.
