Kalamazoo Police were traveling in the 400 block of West Michigan Avenue, early Sunday morning, when they were flagged-down by a motorist whose car was just stolen from a gas station at the intersection of West Michigan Avenue and Westnedge Avenue.

Fortunately, the driver had a phone app that was able to track the stolen vehicle. The car was located in the vicinity of West Main Street and U.S. 131, and when officers attempted a stop, it fled Northbound onto U.S. 131. The pursuit continued into Allegan County where assisting agencies took over, disabling the vehicle with spike strips.

The thief fled the stolen vehicle, but was soon apprehended by Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies and turned-over to Kalamazoo Public Safety officers. As a result, a 48 year-old Detroit man is facing a variety of felony charges related to the incident.
