Kalamazoo Shooter Jason Dalton Found Competent to Stand Trial
Jason Dalton, the man charged with killing six people during a shooting spree in Kalamazoo in February appeared in court Friday for a hearing on his mental competency.
The criminal case has been on hold while the courts waited for experts to determine whether or not Dalton is competent to stand trial. Michigan State Police found him to be competent. At the hearing Friday, the Judge Tiffany Ankley stated her displeasure with the fact that information from the competency exam was made public prior to the hearing.
This exam was not meant to determine whether or not Dalton was sane at the time of the shootings, but rather to determine whether or not he is competent to assist his lawyer with his defense.
