More retailers are keeping the doors closed on Thanksgiving, allowing employees more time with their families. See the list of Kalamazoo closings.

While stores like Meijer and Wal-Mart will remain open 24 hours over Thanksgiving, other stores are pushing back the encroachment of Black Friday shopping into family and football time.

Here are the Kalamazoo retailers that will not be open on November 24, Thanksgiving Day.

  • Bed Bath & Beyond*
  • Burlington Coat Factory
  • Cabela's
  • Costco*
  • DSW*
  • GameStop
  • Hobby Lobby*
  • Home Depot
  • Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts
  • Lowe's
  • Marshall's
  • Menard's
  • Office Max
  • Petco
  • Petsmart
  • Pier 1
  • Sam's Club
  • Staples
  • T.J. Maxx
  • Tractor Supply Co.
*These stores have never been open on Thanksgiving Day

Still, other big box stores will continue the new tradition of turkey day shopping:

  • Crossroads Mall in Portage- open at 6 p.m. until Midnight on Thanksgiving, but not all the store gates will be open. (See list above.)
  • J.C Penney- 3 p.m.
  • Best Buy- 5 p.m.
  • Michael's- 4 p.m.
  • Target- 6 p.m.
  • Toys R' Us- 5 p.m.

So get out there and fight the crowds or sit home and then support the companies that are emphasizing family values- the choice is yours!
