Kellogg Company ‘Restructuring’, Battle Creek Could Lose 60 Jobs
The Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company is planning to undertake a major restructuring of their North American business, and some jobs will be lost here in town.
Kellogg’s made the announcement Monday that they were going to start reorganizing their business in January to “win in the marketplace and deliver top-line growth”; some of these changes include the consolidation of their snacks, morning foods and frozen food businesses into a single focused organization.
They are also considering selling their cookie and fruit snack businesses, so they can have a “sharper focus” on their core business. Kellogg owns brands such as Keebler, and Famous Amos.
Battle Creek City Manager Rebecca Fleury released a statement after the announcement, saying that around 30 jobs may be lost with the restructuring, and another 30 people could lose their job if they sell their cookie and fruit snack lines. Fleury said that while it is “always difficult to hear” about job cuts, she says that “we appreciate [Kellogg’s] open communication and ongoing dialogue” over the impact their decisions have on their home community.
