Local Mexican Favorite El Gallo Blanco Has Closed Permanently
Since 2011, they've been serving up authentic Mexican food in Portage. Now, the owners of El Gallo Blanco have closed the restaurant and are moving on.
It comes as a shock that one of the places just named one of the best underrated Mexican restaurants in Kalamazoo has closed its doors. El Gallo Blanco, formerly at 2838 Portage St. now has a note on the door which reads,
Thank you for all the memories, Kalamazoo! Time for a new chapter in our lives!!

The El Gallo Blanco Facebook page has been quiet since the end of July, but we know they reopened on May 30 for pick up and delivery after closing on March 25 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The highly customizable menu was unique to El Gallo Blanco, as fillers for your tacos, burritos, enchiladas, et al included shredded beef, shredded chicken, steak, marinated pork, poblano peppers, beef tongue, fried pork, chipotle cream chicken, chorizo, beef cheek, mushrooms, beef with veggies or cactus. While there are a lot of places to get great Mexican food in Kalamazoo, El Gallo Blanco will be missed.
