Are you an avid off-road vehicle (ORV) rider, or a lover of Michigan’s forest and nature?

Well if so you will be glad to hear that Michigan updated the maps of roads open to ORV use.  Did you know that there more than 6,300 miles of state forest roads in Northern Michigan to have a blast on riding your ORV’s?

To check out the updated maps of roads that you are able to drive your ORV’s on go to michigan.gov/ForestRoads.

According to an article published in MLive back in 2016 Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources was directed to “comprehensively map and inventory all state forest roads and make determinations on the open/closed status of each road” in Northern Michigan.  Southern Michigan and the U.P. mapping was completed at the end of last year.

DNR natural resources deputy director, Bill O’Neill was quoted in the article stating:

This was a great effort to increase the accuracy of our state forest road system, be responsive to the variety of recreation uses that occur on state-managed lands, and ensuring the protection of our valuable natural resources...DNR staff will provide regular updates to the state forest road inventory and ensure appropriate use of these roads.

Sounds like a lot of fun and thanks to the updated maps you will be able to go where you might not have gone before.

Drive safely!
