Michigan Parents Can Be Notified When Teens Get a Traffic Stop

If you live in Livingston or Mason Counties, you can get a text and/or an email if your teenage driver is stopped by police.

And apparently, this program has been around for a long time...but most people didn't know about it and/or didn't use it.

It's called Sheriffs Telling Our Parents and Promoting Educated Drivers (STOPPED). Previously, notificaitons were made by mail. Now, they'll be made by text or email. It's funded by State Farm Insurance (go figure).

Drivers will have 48 hours to discuss the stop with their parents before they're notified, so it's not exactly a tattle-tale-system.

Our son is barely 13, so I can't relate to the "my kid drives" mentality yet. If you DO have a teen driver, would you sign up for this program?
