Michiganders Caught a Waterspout over Lake Huron On Video

Talk about a bunch of super cool pictures and video!

Last week, several residents in the Port Austin area caught a waterspout, or a "cold air funnel" over Lake Huron.

Contrary to popular belief, this is NOT a tornado. Tornadoes form over land. The waterspout that formed over the lake wasn't part of a thunderstorm, and occurs when the cold air meets warm water.

If a waterspout moves onto land, a tornado warning is issued.

However, if a waterspout moves onto land, it's still not considered a tornado - it's a landspout. Winds can gust at upwards of 50 mph, so it's important to stay inside and seek shelter.
